This made me tear up. As someone going through a really hard heartbreak, this really made me challenge my perspectives and the narrative I made about the outcome of my situation. Though it does not erase the lived realities and experiences we had with that person, it is worth considering that himan beings are not made to be binary. We are complex species that is shaped by our environment, choices, experiences and thoughts. This concept, though fundamentally true, is still very hard to accept for most of us. But thank you for this eye opening article.

Awesome work. Change conjures the need to blame and point fingers because accepting the truth that what once lived in close proximity is now a distant memory can sometimes cause insufferable longing.

I was relating to this as the person who may be being seen as “changed.” As the one who often reaches out first, I’ve stepped back a lot this last year (feeling emotionally vulnerable with some diagnosis of loved ones and shifting time and energy to these relationships). I’ve noticed that I carry a lot of relationships and realizing that it’s not all mine to carry. Watching my thoughts (and some resentment) about those that I’ve supported in the past but don’t necessarily feel supported by during this time. Human nature, it’s good- AND… I’ve changed. Trying not to make myself or them wrong, just giving myself space and allowing things to unfold.
